The rubber extruder is the basic equipment of the rubber industry and one of the key equipments that affect product quality. It plays a very important role in the production process of tires and rubber products. The development of foreign rubber extruders has experienced plunger extruders, screw hot feed extruders, ordinary cold feed extruders, main and auxiliary screw cold feed extruders, and cold feed exhaust extrusion. machine etc. machine, needle type cold feed extruder, compound extruder and other stages.

The extruder originated in the 18th century, and the manual piston extruder for making seamless lead pipes made by Joseph Brammer in England in 1795 is considered to be the world's first extruder. After that, in the first 50 years of the 19th century, the extruder was basically only used in the production of lead pipes, food processing such as macaroni, brick making and ceramic industries.
During the development of the extruder as a manufacturing method, the first clearly documented was R. Brooman's 1845 patent for the use of an extruder to produce high-quality wire. Goodwave's HBewlgy subsequently modified the extruder and used it in 1851 to coat the copper wires of the first submarine cable between Dover and Calais. Over the next 25 years, extrusion methods became increasingly important, with electric extruders rapidly replacing the manual extruders of the past. Early mechanically operated plunger extruders produced thousands of kilometers of insulated wire and cable, thus laying a solid foundation for cable production. Early cable extruders, whether manual, mechanical or hydraulic, were of the plunger type. In this production process, a plunger presses hot gutta-percha into a mold through which the copper wire passes, and then extrudes the gutta-percha from the mold, creating an insulating layer on the copper wire.
The rubber extruder that appeared in 1870 was a hot feed extruder. The rubber material it feeds must be hot smelted, the feeding is uniform, stable and constant, and the material temperature is kept at 50-70 °C. The screw is short, the thread groove is deep, and the homogenization effect is not ideal. Since the 1970s. There is a phenomenon that the aspect ratio becomes smaller. Due to continuous extrusion, simple operation, high production efficiency, and stable shape of extruded products, hot-feed extruders are still used in the production process of many products. In tire production, it is used for the extrusion of various treads and rubber profiles, and for the extrusion of rubber and rubber blanks in the production of rubber products such as rubber hoses and cables.
The cold feed extruder appeared in the 1940s, began to popularize in the 1960s, and became the mainstream of development in the 1980s. By the early 1990s, the products produced by cold-feed extruders in developed countries such as Europe and the United States accounted for 95% of the total output. There are separation screw extruders, baffle screw extruders, cavity screw extruders, transfer mixing extruders, pin screw extruders and multi-channel transfer mixing screw (MCT) extruders.
